Why backup matters
Data loss can happen due to failure, attack (ransomware), human error or deletion. A proper backup strategy ensures fast recovery in these cases.
What are RPO and RTO?
- RPO (Recovery Point Objective) — how much data you can afford to lose (e.g. last 24h). Defines backup frequency.
- RTO (Recovery Time Objective) — how fast you must recover (e.g. 2h). Defines the recovery process.
The 3-2-1 rule
The gold standard for reliable backup: 3 copies of data, on 2 different media, 1 copy offsite (geo). This protects against local failure and even country-level problems.
Geo-redundancy levels
| Level | Protection |
|---|---|
| Same DC | Server failure |
| Another DC | DC-level issue |
| Another country | Regional disaster |
Epro.io backup approach
Automatic daily backup (nightly, email report), 10-day retention and restore to any point. Backups are stored on a separate server and cannot be deleted from the main one; geo-redundancy in another DC or country is available.
FAQ
How fast is recovery?
Depends on size; restore to any point within 10 days.
Where are backups stored?
On a separate server; with geo-redundancy, also in another DC or country.
Can I choose the frequency?
Yes, frequency and copy count are set per your RPO need.
